CCB/BNS Holiday Party Meeting Notice

The 

Annual Holiday Party 

of the Boston Numismatic Society and the Collectors Club of Boston will be held at

7:30 P.M. on Tuesday December 10^th, 2013 

at the 

Trinity Church, 730 Main Street, Waltham, MA. 

There will be the usual “punch with” and “punch without”, along with an assortment of goodies.

Members are encouraged to bring a food item such as cheese and crackers, cookies, brownies, carrots and blue cheese dip, chips and dip, holiday breads, or any other refreshments that our members and guests may enjoy. 

Members are also encouraged to bring in items for the Bazaar each item must have a minimum value of $5.00 and is to be numismatic: coins, tokens, medals, books, etc. The President will have the option of not allowing any item not deemed suitable. Please show your donated items prior to placing on the tables and receive one strip of tickets for your donation.

The building will be open by 6:45 P.M. We look forward to seeing members and guests.

Presentation Medal honoring the late Thomas P. Rockwell

The members of the Boston Numismatic Society, Currency Club of New England and the Collectors Club of Boston have all agreed to honor the late Thomas P. Rockwell by renaming the joint meeting in his name and issuing a Presentation Medal honoring Mr. Rockwell to be presented annually. 

We are now having a Medals contest and are asking our members to submit their ideas and design for the medal to honor Mr. Rockwell no later than January 1, 2014. For more information or to submit your design you may email williamharkins@comcast.net .

November 26, 2013 Meeting Notice

The next meeting of the Collectors Club of Boston will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday November 26^th, 2013 

at the Trinity Church 730 Main Street, Waltham, MA

This month’s meeting was to feature auction which has been postponed. 

In observance of Thanksgiving and the 50^th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy we will instead have a special Show and Tell with members bringing items related to Kennedy or the Pilgrims.

October 22nd Meeting Announcement

The next meeting of the Collectors Club of Boston will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, October 22^nd, 2013 at the Trinity Church 730 Main Street, Waltham, MA. 

The feature of the evening will be “Heavy Metal Exhibit Night”

 A unique show and tell session will be the highlight of this regular meeting night. Some members will be displaying numismatic items usually too large or heavy to normally present at monthly meetings.  These will be on display all evening and are expected to take up to six or seven tables of display space. 

So far we expect 

• A fine collection of Sweden Plate Money, a collection of large numismatic medals
• A collection of 12-15 steel and copper banknote engraving plates mostly from New England
• A second collection of banknote engraving plates, again from a New England state
• Gold NENA Medals and their Dies
• A selection of various larger than normal medals
• A large plaque engraved by Bela Lyon Pratt, the designer of some of our gold coin issues 
• A large ancient silver Syracuse Decadrachm
• A very large imitation Syracuse Tetradrachm
• A shooting collar with 13 medals 
• plus items that did not make it in time for this listing.

It is a considerable effort for the exhibitors to transport and exhibit these oversize and heavy items and that itself should be reason to try to attend this meeting. These items will probably never again be brought together in one place where we all can enjoy this once in a lifetime exhibit of unusual numismatic material.

Show Announcement

On Saturday, October 5^th, 2013 the New England Numismatic Association will hold their 69^th Conference and Convention in conjunction with the New Hampshire Coin and Currency Expo www.nhcoinexpo.com  October 4-5. 

The event will be held at the Radisson Hotel/ Center of New Hampshire, 700 Elm Street, Manchester, NH. The New Hampshire Coin and Currency Expo is one of New England’s largest coin shows with dealers from around the country. 

This year’s program will include the John Kittredge Young Numismatist Program sponsored by NENA and the Kittredge Foundation. Other highlights of the Convention include Educational Presentations, Exhibits, Club Tables and our Annual Meeting.

The New England Numismatic Association is still accepting applications for this year’s Exhibits Competition. The competition will take place during our 69^th Conference and Convention on Saturday October, 5^th, 2013. As part of this year’s Exhibits Program we are planning an Exhibits Workshop. Robert Fritsch, ANA Judge and Exhibitor, will provide valuable information and tips while evaluating this year’s exhibits.

The Collectors Club of Boston and the Currency Club of New England will be hosting a club table at this show.

June 25th Meeting Notice

The next meeting of the Collectors Club of Boston will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, June 25^th, 2013 at the Trinity Church 730 Main Street, Waltham, MA. 

This will be our “Other Hobbies Night.” This is always an interesting evening as many members share something from their other hobbies or collecting interests. Some surprising and original presentations are sure to await those who attend!
